I Was Glad: A Collection of English Choral Classics at St Albans Cathedral

The combined choirs, orchestras and choral society of St Albans School and St Albans High School for Girls join forces for their annual concert. The programme will feature choral anthems by Hubert Parry, in commemoration of the centenary of his death, as well as choral and orchestral favourites from his students William Walton and Edward Elgar. The programme will also feature Vaughan Williams’ moving cantata Dona Nobis Pacem which is a plea for peace, setting words from the Mass, the Bible, three poems by Walt Whitman and part of a political speech by John Bright, against the Crimean War. The work is scored for chorus, large orchestra and soprano and baritone soloists. Tickets from £10 (student concessions available).
