St Albans Bach Choir Rutter: Magnificat & Requiem and Bernstein: Chichester Psalms
6th April 2019
A blend of Biblical Hebrew verse and Christian choral tradition, the first performance of Chichester Psalms in 1965, was a sell-out and its tuneful and contemporary melodies and unusual rhythms have been popular ever since. Rutter's lively and uplifting Magnificat, and his contemplative and intensely moving Requiem (which will be conducted by the composer himself), have become two of his most endearing and enduring works.
