Stunning stately homes and glorious gardens - Hertfordshire is a treasure trove of historic attractions and scented sites, all waiting to be explored.

Visit the world’s oldest mechanised paper mill and the birthplace of paper’s industrial revolution at Frogmore Paper Mill. Not only can you explore this impressive building, learning all about the fascinating history of paper-making, Frogmore is also home to a beautiful art gallery that's well worth a visit. Just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful St Albans city centre you can find the magnificent St Albans Cathedral, this is the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in Britain and home to the longest nave in England. End the day with a stop off at The Abbot’s Kitchen café!

Explore Henry Moore Studios and Gardens, with over 70 acres of landscape gardens and countryside inspired much of the world-famous artist's iconic work. The sculpture grounds really showcase pieces against the landscape. Pop-in to the Bourne Maquette Studio and find Henry Moore's smaller works.

Spend the day exploring the lovely gardens at Knebworth House and Gardens, the gardens originate from the 17th century but are currently mostly from the Edwardian era. The numerous garden rooms each have a different feel depending on the planting; from the walled kitchen garden's colourful and unusual vegetables to the 72 life-sized dinosaurs you will encounter amongst the woodland paths.

Dating back from the 17th century, the gardens at Hatfield House and gardens combine classic elements and wilderness to keep visitors' interest from early spring through to autumn. Bluebells and daffodils, a scented garden, fountains, parterre, topiary and even vegetables are found amongst the Elizabethan Old Palace's grounds.

Visit the former home of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. St Paul's Walden Bury is a charming small stately home with a notable 18th century landscape garden, covering over 50 acres. Long avenues of clipped beech hedges lead to classical temples, statues, lake and ponds.

Stroll around the beautiful Aylett Nurseries and explore the wonderful collection of flowers and house plants at this independent, family run garden centre. With a coffee house, seasonal garden furniture, butterfly house, magical Christmas displays and much more, there's always plenty to see here.
