Christmas Lights in Hertfordshire

The John Lewis Christmas advert has landed, the Starbucks famous red cups are back in stock, and towns across the county are preparing themselves to switch on their Christmas lights. That’s right, it’s finally okay to step into the festive season in Hertfordshire!

And, with light switch-on events happening throughout November, it’s time to grab your hat and scarf, and start planning a Christmas outing with our guide to the main events in Hertfordshire. There’s plenty of opportunities to extend your outing with a trip to a cosy local pub, a spot of shopping at a festive market, or even a loop around a local ice rink that will have you skating towards 25th December in style!

Head north (although not quite as far as the North Pole) where you’ll find Santa’s Grotto, a Christmas market, food and drink, family entertainment, and be able to take part in a fun Christmas trail when Letchworth Town Centre flick the switch on 25th November. Meanwhile, join the stars of Welwyn Hatfield’s Beauty & The Beast pantomime on 18th November for live music, stage performances, and fun fair rides in the lead up to a light switch-on in Hatfield Town Centre that’s sure to warrant a standing ovation (oh yes it is!)

Join Stevenage Football Club player Chris Day as he lights up the town on 30th November, and don’t leave before you’ve bundled inside the selfie snow globe to savour the moment, or stopped by to stroke the adorable huskies.

Street entertainment, stage performances and the chance to meet Father Christmas will accompany Hemel Hempstead’s light switch-on on 26th November. And, in St Albans you’re invited to soak up the sights, smells and festive ambience when their light switch-on (also on 26th November) signals the launch of their popular Christmas Market.

So, grab your best Christmas jumper and head outside. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Hertfordshire.
