We’re delighted to launch Absolutely Belting Comedy at The Orange Tree, Baldock — your new monthly night of brilliant live stand-up, on the last Friday of every month!
For our opening night, we’ve lined up a genuine comedy legend, one of our favourite musical comedians, two rising stars and one chaotic host.
HEADLINER: ARTHUR SMITH
Comedian, writer, broadcaster and erstwhile Grumpy Old Man, Arthur Smith is a true British comedy legend.
Arthur has performed around the world, with credits spanning stand-up, plays, screenplays and broadcasting. His play An Evening with Gary Lineker enjoyed a long West End run, while his Edinburgh Fringe shows have regularly sold out.
His broadcast credits include Have I Got News for You, QI, BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends and The Comedy Club on BBC Radio 4 Extra. He is also the author of the much-loved autobiography My Name Is Daphne Fairfax and 100 Things I Meant to Tell You.
“The walking, talking spirit of the Fringe” — Dominic Maxwell, The Times
OPENING THE SHOW: JOE DA COSTA 🎸
One of our absolute favourite acts, Joe Da Costa brings brilliantly funny songs, sharp writing and an impressive ability to play guitar and sing simultaneously. They said it couldn’t be done.
Joe has won Best Newcomer awards at the Edinburgh, Brighton and Hastings Fringes, appeared on the BBC New Comedy Awards, and reached the finals and semi-finals of the Musical Comedy Awards and Sketch Off.
Think somewhere between Flight of the Conchords and Bo Burnham, with music credits including 8 Out of 10 Cats, Richard Ayoade’s Question Team and work with Nick Helm, Amy Gledhill and Luke McQueen.
A 6'1" London-based musical comedian and Aquarius, Joe has never been successfully prosecuted by the police.
PLUS: CHRIS ALI & CHAS LANGSTON
Alongside Arthur and Joe are two absolutely belting acts making waves on the comedy circuit.
Chris Ali is an exciting rising comedian from North London who has already wowed us at gigs in Stevenage and Letchworth. Having recently opened for Phil Nichol on his UK tour, Chris is definitely one to watch. We can’t wait for Baldock to catch him before we can no longer afford him.
Chas Langston tackles life’s simplest questions through the eyes of a self-confessed idiot. Fast-paced, chaotic, self-deprecating and endearing, he fumbles his way through the world with an observational style all his own. His one-man show Self Sabotage has included a popular return to the Rik Mayall Comedy Festival.
YOUR HOST: DUNCAN HART
Holding it all together — barely — is ABC co-founder and one-man car crash Duncan Hart.
