Amazing places to stay in Herts

Ellie Graham
2nd August 2022

Herts is full of the most amazing things to see and do – beautiful wildlife, wonderful walks, fantastic film heritage and an ever-growing cultural scene. With so much going on, it can feel like you might not have time to visit everywhere you’d like. Lucky for you, we’ve got a great range of places to stay in the county that will leave you wanting to extend that break by just a few more days. Whether you’re an outdoorsy person, a creature of comforts, or love to learn, there’s something for everyone here. Bring the whole family, or come with a loved one, Herts and its warm welcome is waiting for you.

Celtic Harmony

For over twenty years, Celtic Harmony has been reconnecting its visitors to the natural world and traditions of life in ancient Britain. Now it’s your turn to travel back in time and experience the Celtic way of life (and sleep)! Join in on the family adventure with Celtic Game days where you can try your hand at den building, Celtic game playing (of course) and, most importantly, wood-fired pizza eating! Then you’ll need the comfort of your very own roundhouse for a good night’s sleep in Hertfordshire’s countryside. Or you can skip the hard work and go straight for the BBQ eating, marshmallow roasting and bat watching – delightful!

Tewin Bury Farm

You will certainly not be disappointed with your night’s stay here at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel. With its scenic views, warm atmosphere, and natural surroundings, you’ll feel you’ve been transported to another world. Stay overnight in a converted farm, set on the beautiful river Mimram – we can hear the calming current already. Enjoy a drink in the cosy Stable Bar (which, yes, used to be a stable), have a bite to eat in the Cowshed (same again, you guessed it), or head along to the Farm Shop Bar & Terrace where you can spend the evening relaxing with friends as you soak in the peace and tranquillity of one of Herts’ most unique accommodations.

Banyers House

What more could you want from your overnight stay than incredible food right at your door? The Banyers House, part of the Oakman Inns Group, are here to provide you with the best food in the hotel biz. Why not try a wood fired pizza, handmade by the hotel’s pizzaiolos (and yes, we just learned that was a thing, too), or go a bit heartier with a Sunday roast? After lunch, take a wander around the local area (if you’re not too full) and get to know the sights of Cambridge, the Imperial War Museum, or even the Royston Cave and Museum. This is the perfect break for some rest and relaxation and, with packages for couples and families, you can enjoy it with your nearest and dearest.

North Hill Farm

Love the outdoors but also the comforts of your own home? North Hill Farm is the place for you! This amazing overnight experience will give you that much needed outdoors time, while also giving you a cosy place to rest your head at the end of the day. Hot tub under the stars with complimentary prosecco, snooze in a tree house, or let your magical imagination run free in a Harry Potter-inspired hut. With experiences suitable for all ages, you can enjoy a night at the sustainable North Hill with the whole family.

The Grove

The Grove has everything you could imagine – from family getaways to relaxing retreats, there is something for any holiday! Enjoy a family adventure filled with clay pigeon shooting, archery, tennis, and Netflix-equipped rooms. Or have a relaxing day of golf, spa treatments, and three course dining. The choice is yours at The Grove, and there are plenty of them – you might even need to stay an extra night to fit in all the fantastic food, serene swimming, and outdoor cinema showings!

Down House Hall & Spa

Looking for an eloquent overnight experience? Look no further than the Down House Hall & Spa, where you can wander 110 acres of magnificent outdoor space, enjoy a moment of rest in an outstanding spa, or just sit back with a bite to eat and a smile on your face. This is a truly historic setting – you won’t want to miss out on staying the night in this 11th century estate, where you’ll feel you’ve been pampered beyond belief. For an evening of relaxation and memory making, you’ll have to stay at Down House Hall.

Pendley Manor

You won’t be short on luxury at Pendley Manor this summer. In this stunning Tudor revival building, you’ll be immersed in the beautiful countryside of Hertfordshire, with all the amenities you could ask for at your doorstep. There are plenty of family activities to enjoy, like dedicated kids’ pool time, horse riding and archery, as well as some down time for the parents in the spa, dining room and bar. There’s room for everyone at Pendley, so come along and make memories that will last you a lifetime.

Sopwell House

For some relaxed time away with loved ones, the family owned Sopwell House has got you covered. Just a short hop from London, this sustainable, welcoming hotel will bring you all that you need from an overnight stay in Hertfordshire. The Georgian country house invites you to spend some much needed down time amongst beautiful surroundings. A brasserie, Asian dining, cocktails and afternoon tea have got you and your appetite covered – so stay a few nights and give your taste buds the time of their life!
