Can you believe it, the August bank holiday weekend is already upon us, bringing with it the last hurrah before the end of summer. It goes without saying now’s the time to soak up that sunshine and enjoy the final long weekend before (stay with us) Christmas, and with so many sensational bank holiday events in Hertfordshire, we’ve got plenty of reasons to celebrate. What are you waiting for? Don’t let another long weekend pass you by!

Wind in the Willows

Don’t forget this weekend is also the penultimate one before that school bell rings again, so make sure the kids have some fun before they go back. Standalone Farm in Letchworth Garden City is going wild this bank holiday (literally), with a whole host of Wind in the Willows inspired activities, characters and fun to keep little ones busy.

Luxury celebrations

Trust us, a long weekend at The Grove is going to be a memorable one and this year’s bank holiday bash is no exception. On top of sun-drenched swims, Segway experiences and those oh-so luxurious rooms, expect a taste of the seaside at The Grove this weekend (yes, a beach in Hertfordshire!) Play beach volleyball in the sun, enjoy donkey rides and Punch and Judy shows, before watching cinematic favourites from a beanbag in the Secret Garden. Candyfloss, anyone?

Bank holiday brunch

The ever so glamourous Brocket Hall will be opening the doors of Auberge du Lac for a very special brunch come bank holiday Monday, so be sure to book your seat at the table! With a complimentary glass of Champagne and a menu of eggs royal, poached cod and smoked salmon, to name but a few, we can guarantee this is the bank holiday brunch to (b)eat.

Fantastic festivals

You didn’t think we’d forget a little festival fun, did you? True hotheads need only look to the Benington Lordship Gardens for the ultimate slice of spice this weekend, with the hotly anticipated Benington Chilli Festival. Expect chillies (naturally), sensational street food, a chilli eating competition and plenty more entertainment. For big and little ones, Meraki Festival is a must this weekend. Live music, great food and drink and plenty of free family activities are all on offer at this annual favourite, so make sure you don’t miss out.

BBQ Party

On Sunday 25th August, you’re invited to join Paradise Wildlife Park for a wonderfully wild summer BBQ. Watch the Big Cat Feed, before tucking into your own delicious dinner, dance the night away at the disco and keep the kids smiling with plenty of family fun and games.

Classics and collectables

Petrolheads, this is the weekend you’ve been waiting for! The ever elegant Knebworth House will host 1,000 classic vehicles, from sleek sports cars, to motorcycles and military vehicles, so prepare for a day packed with envy. Between parades and the award ceremony, look out as things step up a gear in the Decibel Duel in the search to find the loudest car of the show.

The wheels keep turning

Stevenage is pedalling straight into the festival fun with a week-long cycling festival from 17th August. After a wheelie fun family day on 18th August, the two wheeled extravaganza continues Sunday 25th August with routes and activities for everyone from pros to newbie riders.

Pitch up

Fancy a bit of a last minute escape before the back to work blues sets in? We recommend switching off and pitching up in the Hertfordshire countryside for a break with The Camping and Caravanning Club. Choose between the beautiful Hertford or Theobalds Park club sites for the ultimate escape and enjoy a couple of nights under the stars.
