26th – 30th May

May half term is on the horizon, a chance to seek out the best family-friendly days out, make the most of the weather and finally spend some time together. We know it’s not always easy to tempt the kids into a family day out, persuade teens away from the screens or come up with ideas to keep them all entertained, so allow us to help. We’ve rounded up the best half term events and plans in Hertfordshire this May.

Knebworth House

Well, of course Knebworth House is top of our list. When the sun (hopefully) shines, so does Knebworth, and while you can appreciate the formal gardens, blooms and magnificent manor, the little ones will love the dinosaur trail, adventure playground and wide-open space to run and play. To take your family’s half term to the next level, we recommend booking into one of their brand new holiday cottages, North Lodge North, North Lodge South and Gardener’s Cottage, each packed with character and charm within Knebworth Park.

Chiltern Open Air Museum

Experience the Thrill of Roman Gladiators at Chiltern Open Air Museum on 25th and 26th May. Step back in time and witness fierce battle in this action-packed event which will see warriors clash in combat and thrill the crowd. Promising the chance to learn about the world of the Roman gladiators, we can guarantee this top event is set to entertain the whole family!

St Albans Cathedral

1700 years of history await at St Albans Cathedral, the home of Britain’s longest nave and the rest place of Britain’s first saint. See the sights, including stunning stained glass, medieval wall paintings and the beautiful Saints in Colour which has brought the Wallingford High Altar screen to life. On Thursday 29th May take part in the Family Discovery Morning, offering the chance to dress up, get involved in arts and crafts and story telling.

St Albans Museums

St Albans Museums are packed with fantastic family-friendly plans this half term. Whether your little ones want to get stuck in with family painting workshops and even a special Roman Kitchen Workshop at the Verulamium Museum, or you want to go wild with Birds and Bugs Modelling at St Albans Museum + Gallery, St Albans Museums offer fantastic budget-friendly plans to keep little ones smiling.

The Snow Centre

While we’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather this half term, we know that sometimes the heat can get a bit much, so allow us to introduce the coolest place around, The Snow Centre. Get a family lift pass for the 160m main slope, or for those looking to up their skills, book in for family ski lessons and learn a brand new hobby together.

Warner Bros Studio Tour London

The most magical day out around, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is your chance to walk in the footsteps of Harry Potter, step behind the scenes of the wizarding world and learn about the creativity that went into crafting the sets, props and costumes of the films. Plus, new for this year, the Triwizard Tournament will bring to life the action-packed scenes of the fourth film, sharing spellbinding special effects and even the chance to put your name in the Goblet of Fire!
