The show must go on in Hertfordshire, so join us as we wander twinkling city streets and spend the evening being transported to another world with live theatre. Better still, make the outing truly special as you add a pairing of action and music with dinner, drinks and a stay and we reckon you’ve got the perfect date night or family getaway. Ready to start planning your weekend out, all in time for World Theatre Day on the 27th? Leave it to us…

Campus West

There's plenty in store to be enjoyed at Campus West this year, their lineup filled with show stoppers, crowd pleasers, encore encouragers, and plenty of laughs. Comedy nights, family-friendly performances, musical tribute nights...all of this and more in store with a night at the theatre.

Get transported to the magical world of wonder as Watford Palace Theatre brings you the world premier of a brand new British musical. Frankie Goes to Bollywood tells the story of real British women, caught in the spotlight of the biggest film industry in the world. Follow the colourful and magnificent journey of showstopping song, dance, and romance. For pre-theatre drinks try BloomsYard, followed by dinner at The Florist to continue the visual feasts.

St Albans

Cobbled streets and more independent cafes and restaurants than we could ever possibly list, St Albans has date night written all over it. Pair that with the range of live music and theatre on the cards at the Alban Arena this season, including this year's show of Cinderella, a Beatles tribute night, and much much more. Enjoy pre-show dinner and drinks at The Ivy or Loft, or sip local brews from Mad Squirrel, before taking your seats. After all that, why not skip the last train home and spend the night at the stylish Sopwell House

South Mill Arts

At the heart of the local community, this one is for all you arts lovers who just can't say no to a night of pure entertainment. From screenings of the latest movies, to live music performances, to full on theatre-extravaganzas, South Mill Arts has a line-up that will leave you bedazzled.

Watch the beloved story of Wallace and Gromit in The Wrong Trousers unfold on stage this year at The Broadway Theatre, accompanied by The Hitchin Band to truly immerse you in the experience. Afterwards, we recommend heading to L'Artista for authentic Italian pizza and pasta - delicious and always a winner with the little ones!

This year, Stevenage’s Gordon Craig Theatre will play host to a show of dreams, with Rapunzel! Begin your evening of music and magic with a dinner in the Stevenage Old Town in the elegant Rump and Wade brasserie and then round up your night with a stay in Hotel Cromwell’s independently styled rooms.

The Old Town Theatre – Hemel Hempstead

Music, entertainment, and show stopping acts will be at The Old Town Theatre this year, creating plenty of fun-filled days out for the whole family. Whoever you're bringing, there's something on the programme to delight anyone in the group. Round it off with dinner in The Bricklayer's Arms in the nearby village of Flaunden and you’ve got an evening to remember.

Watersmeet Theatre brings you iconic acts to delight all the senses - a Tina Turner tribute, nights of Aladdin, and a spring family panto of Cinderella. Head to nearby ZaZa, an Italian food lover’s paradise, to tuck in to some of the best pizza around. While easy train links mean you can be soon be whisked home, we recommend making this into a full weekend with a stay in one of North Hill Farm’s glamourous glamping cabins.
