Make A Thumb Pot with a Pottery Artisan

2nd March 2025
During the Neolithic (new Stone Age), people began making pottery for storing and cooking food. Most small pots were made as pinch pots or thumb pots from a single ball of clay. A thumb pot or pinch pot is a simple clay pot made by sticking a thumb into a ball of clay and then pinching the clay between the thumb and the fingers. Have a go at ‘hand built’ pottery guided by Gio and learn how to form the shape of your pot and decorate it with natural materials from the woodland. Designed for ages 4+.
