Amadeus Chamber Orchestra May concert

16th May 2026

Mendelssohn - The Fair Melusina Shostakovich - Cello Concerto No. 1 in E♭ with soloist Ella Harrison (cello) Wagner - Siegfried Idyll Haydn - Symphony No. 100 in G 'Military' Leader: Jennifer Wigram; Conductor: Lewis Gaston Tickets available from TicketSource via a link on our website. Lewis Gaston returns to conduct Amadeus Chamber Orchestra for our May concert. We open with Mendelssohn's romantic 'The Fair Melusina' overture, then welcome Ella Harrison as soloist in the lively and virtuosic Shostakovich 1st cello concerto. The second half of the concert opens with Wagner's intimate and tender Siegfried Idyll, written as a birthday gift for his wife. Haydn's dramatic Symphony no. 100 'Military' completes this exciting programme. Our cello soloist Ella attended The Purcell School and is now in her first year at the Royal College of Music. She was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for five years, including as principal cello in 2025, performing at the BBC Proms. She was the soloist in Elgar's Cello Concerto with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra and played in Julian Lloyd Webber’s Broadway Arts Festival. She has also given recitals at St James Piccadilly, collaborated with the Lee Singers, and performed as a chamber musician at Wigmore Hall, both the Leeds and Leicester International Chamber Music Series, and the Barber Institute of Fine Arts.
