We’re a romantic bunch here in Hertfordshire and with our glorious countryside, frosted pathways, spa breaks and country retreats, is it any wonder why? And because we think romance shouldn’t just be saved for Valentine’s Day, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite romantic winter locations where you can cosy up with the one you love and maybe even consider popping the question, but we’ll love that up to you.

Cottonmill Spa at Sopwell House

Trust us, this is one romantic haven! Choose the Club at Cottonmill Evening retreat and you’ll be treated to a premium treatment, use of the pool facilities, access to the Deep Relaxation Room and the estate’s luxurious spa gardens, all followed up with a three course meal in the Brasserie. Pure bliss! But if you really feel like getting away from it all, why not book up a stay in the grand Sopwell House hotel for the ultimate relaxed winter retreat.

A winter retreat

Hanbury Manor

Just a stroll through the acres of Hanbury Manor’s stretching grounds would be a romantic afternoon, but top that off with a stay in the Jacobean style manor house and you’ve got yourself a romantic winter break. While here treat yourself to an afternoon, or spending an evening sipping cocktails in the by the fire in the magnificent oak hall.

Fireside treats

Ashridge Estate

Don your hats and gloves, lace up your walking boots and take to the trails for beautiful views and peace and quiet at Ashridge Estate this winter. Pick a picturesque frosted morning and you’re in for glittering views across the magnificent Chiltern Hills, the perfect background if you’re looking for the perfect place to ask a certain question…hint, hint.

5,000 acres of beauty

The Clarion Collection Hotel

A cathedral at its heart, cobbled streets, foodie finds and plenty of boutique shops…add a sprinkling of snow to St Albans and you’ve got the ultimate winter escape. And if you’re looking for the ultimate place to escape to, we recommend the historic Clarion Collection hotel. Situated a stone’s throw from that oh so instagammable cathedral and boasting sweeping staircases and astonishing architecture, this city centre hotel will leave you swooning.

A city break

Rye House Kart Raceway

Now hear us out here, we happen to know that not every couple is all hearts and adoration, in fact we know that some couples can be downright competitive, so why not take that competitive spirit you love to the track? Race down to Rye House Kart Raceway (incidentally the place where Lewis Hamilton himself started out) this winter and expect thrills, adrenaline and the perfect day out with your fellow speedster.
