This Father's Day: 15 Jun 2025

We probably don’t tell our dads enough how much they mean to us- from the school runs to the DIY rescues, they’ve always had our backs. So, this Father’s Day, why not show a little appreciation with a day out he’ll truly enjoy? Whether he’s a thrill-seeker, a history buff, or simply someone who appreciates a great meal, Hertfordshire is full of ways to make the day extra special. Here’s a list of ideas for top-notch days out that’ll have dad bringing out his best dad jokes in no time.

Knight to Remember

Take Dad on a journey back in time at Knebworth House & Gardens, where the Medieval Jousting show by the Knights of Middle England is back this Father’s Day. Expect high drama, impressive horsemanship, and a whole lot of cheering as knights battle it out in front of the stunning Knebworth towers. For a quieter, more reflective outing, explore the ancient grounds of St Albans Cathedral, where history comes alive amid beautiful architecture.

Wands at the Ready

If your dad is a fan of the fantastic, take him to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter. Walk the cobbled streets of Diagon Alley, sip a Butterbeer, and explore the sets that brought the wizarding world to life, a spellbinding experience for dads who still have a bit of kid in them.

Art and Heart

What better way to celebrate Dad this Father’s Day than with a trip to the iconic Henry Moore Studios & Gardens? Stroll through stunning grounds and marvel at world-renowned sculptures while enjoying a picnic on the lush lawns. For those who appreciate art and nature, this is a truly memorable way to spend the day.

Raise a Glass (or Two)

For dads who enjoy a proper pint or a tipple with a story, head to Puddingstone Distillery, where he can sample handcrafted spirits and learn about the art of gin-making. Or, for a day that blends adrenaline with a toast, try a supercar experience at Drift Limits before winding down with a celebratory drink, a perfect mix of speed and style.

Thrills and Chills

Is your dad an adrenaline junkie or an outdoor enthusiast? Treat him to a day on the slopes at The Snow Centre, where he can carve up the 160m indoor slope, or book a more hands-on outdoor adventure at the Celtic Harmony Camp, a unique step back into prehistory, complete with archery, woodland walks, and ancient crafts.

Teeing Off in Style

For the dad who loves to tee off, Hanbury Manor’s championship golf course is the perfect spot for a round in beautiful surroundings. Afterwards, settle in for a well-earned meal at the club’s renowned Vardons Restaurant, overlooking the lush views.

Countryside Retreats

If a full day out isn’t enough, consider an overnight stay at Ashridge House, a grand estate set in beautiful parkland, or go for a more rustic vibe at one of Hertfordshire’s charming countryside retreats. Either way, it’s a great way to make the most of the weekend and give Dad a break he won’t forget.
