Hertfordshire is known for its historic estates, countryside and of course, that glorious cathedral... but the county is also awash with smaller, weirder and wilder wonders that are waiting to be uncovered.

Frogmore Paper Mill

One of our favourite hidden gems, this fantastic museum just happens to be home to the world's oldest mechanised paper mill. Get your hands dirty and craft your own paper, follow your guide on a trail through the birthplace of paper's industrial revolution and even set sail along the river.

St Paul's Walden Bury

One of the greatest surviving 18th century gardens can be found right here in Herts, surrounding the stately house that was once the childhood home to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Take a tour through the 50 acres of beautiful landscape garden at St Paul's Walden Bury, dotted with classical statues and temples, before heading inside the house, soaking up its stunning architecture and over 300 years of history.

Much Hadham, the charming setting of this gem is a wonder in itself, but it’s the 70 acre gardens that hold the biggest surprise. Henry Moore’s world-famous sculptures rest within glorious countryside, alongside the studios where he created some of his greatest work.
